Tracking items based on events – RFID technology at the service of luxury goods

December 8, 2021

In 2014, a Swiss watch manufacturer, already a long-standing customer, contacted us about a need they wanted to address: tracking watches at trade shows and events. We offered them an effective and completely innovative concept: tracking items using RFID technology. That's how we got started in event traceability. A year later, a French fine jewelry and watchmaking company expressed keen interest in the same solution. The first version met our customers' basic needs but was not very user-friendly. With a fresh perspective, Solid drafted new specifications and improved the solution, both functionally and in terms of processes, creating SolShow. Over time, other companies in the luxury sector became interested in SolShow, often requesting upgrades that benefit companies that have already adopted the product. This has enabled us to develop a comprehensive and user-friendly solution in 2021 that meets the desires and needs of the luxury market.

Challenges & solutions

Exhibitions are events of great importance for brands, but they also bring their share of stress and logistical challenges. The risk of an item going missing is always present, so it is important to have an overview of who is holding what at all times, and people's responsibilities must be clearly defined. In addition, closing inventories at the end of the day can be long and tedious.

How can complete traceability be maintained?

How can you maintain complete traceability of items on display at events? And how can you reduce inventory time?

SolShow is a comprehensive and effective solution designed for the permanent tracking of items during an event. It allows each item and its manager to be tracked individually and in real time, from the moment it leaves the warehouse to the exhibition halls, enabling inventory management and tracking of items throughout the event. Based on RFID (UHF/NFC) technology, it is designed to be virtually transparent to those working on the event so that they can focus on their work and customer service. In addition, the time spent on end-of-day inventory is drastically reduced. Thanks to its ergonomic, business-oriented design, it is quick and intuitive for those working on the event to learn how to use.

Entities & features

Our solution consists of two parts:
a back-office module, which receives and processes data from fixed and/or mobile readers and formats it so that everyone can see the location of parts at any given moment; and a mobile application, which allows responsibility for parts to be transferred between runners and displays the different statuses of the parts.

The main entities

The application manages several entities representing the various participants present at events:

  • Users: any person using the system and/or who may be responsible for a part.
  • Parts: All parts to be tracked must be inserted into the solution and paired with RFID.
  • Collection: Defining a collection for a set of parts is useful for searching, without affecting the operation of the system.
  • Plateau: consisting of one or more pieces that must remain there as long as the plateau is formed.
  • Locations: types of places where items are placed (display cases, photo shoots, etc.).
  • Events: possibility to schedule multiple events.

Features

Key features include RFID identification, main stock management, movement history, UHF RFID inventory, NFC responsibility transfer, real-time status and location management, as well as marmot management and tray assembly.

Benefits of implementation

Implementing our solution gives companies real-time visibility, increased security, reduced end-of-day inventory time, and improved service quality.

For market managers, SolShow enables immediate location of parts, limits customer waiting time at the stand, allows parts to be pre-reserved, and enables tracking during the reservation process.

For customers, the solution reduces their waiting time at the stand and allows them to be served with even greater professionalism.

For runners, SolShow helps avoid crowds in front of the central warehouse, reduces fatigue at the end of the day thanks to RFID inventory, and allows them to know the location of parts at all times.

As almost all of its services are provided on an outpatient basis, MV Santé is essentially subject to the TARMED tariff. This tariff is regularly revised downwards, forcing the company to optimize its procedures, work organization, and resources.

How can sample tracking be automated in the laboratory?

In 2019, two Swiss pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies contacted us to optimize and automate the tracking of their samples. Due to strict regulations in these industries, they had not begun digitization as in other sectors and needed a change. The Solid team rose to the challenge!
